Acupuncture

What is acupuncture?  Acupuncture is the use of fine, sterile needles inserted into different points along channels or pathways throughout the body. These channels are known as meridians and there are 14 major meridians in the body, each corresponding with a specific organ system. We can have positive effects and influences on our organs and other systems throughout the body by strategically placing the needles.

How does acupuncture work? There are over 350 acupuncture points used to treat various conditions on your body. Each point works a little differently and has its own specific benefits, however most points work to influence the circulatory system, stimulate the nervous system and balance hormones.  For example, by choosing a point that is close to a large bed of capillaries, we can influence blood flow or by choosing a point that is near a nerve ending or beginning, we can stimulate nerve flow. When these energies are in balance, the body is able to heal itself from any ailment.
